Welcome to Simple Designs first blog post ... ever, as in, like, ever. EVER.
I am new at this, at this writing blog stuff, and I won't be doing it often, maybe once a month, maybe ... call me maybe? And this is crazyyyyy! But call me maybe! Oops, sorry, sidetracked already, OK, so I just wanted to say "hello" to all the Simple Designs Fans and Supporters out there. Hiiiiiii.
So, what does one write about on a small, local design blog? I HAVE NO IDEA! And I can't think of anything earth shattering to write about, its early morning on a Monday, and I haven't had my dark coffee yet so I am winging it, not a good sign for your first post but whatever, I am not a writer, I am a artist :)
So, my first entry will be this:
With the new year, I felt the need for change, nothing crazy but a simple, small change that would inspire me and get the creativity flowing. But, like how? What small change could help? I cleaned my desk, it felt good but didn't inspire me to create. I organized my computer, cleaned up my design folders, organized invoices, organized photos and files and so on. Organized my yarn, I know how silly that is. Organized all my jewelry supplies, tools and even all my stock, got my new jewelry for local stores ready and organized. I spent a whole day organizing my office. It was nice to be this organized again and all, everything clean, clear and sparkling but still, no feeling that sparked me to create. Not a bit.
So, I unplugged everything in my office, and started to move it around. I moved framed pictures, my desk, my supplies, shelves, rugs, everything. Boom! I was inspired! I cleared the biggest wall off in my office to bare, white, plain. I went up in my attic and brought down something that me and my friend, a tried and true Simple supporter, Shelby Love, made this past summer. I had seen something like it on Pinterest (see below) and wanted to make it for a backdrop for my own wedding ceremony.
So, we made it, or something like it, on the hottest summer night, for about 6 hours. I found white paper flowers at a craft store and I made different leaves shapes and had them printed on green paper and we cut out each and every single one. I found a cool birch branch in my backyard that would work, and we used birch trees on our save the dates (designed by Simple Designs, of course), so to me, it was meant to be :) We used hemp and baking string, (also something that we used to tie our invitations, rsvp, and wedding package together), to hang everything with... I thought it would be a simple, quick project, but 6ish hours later, we were exhausted! But we made it, and it is perfect and I love it. We used champaign corks too, a SIMPLE add-on that is a must, if you know me.
We didn't end up using it at the wedding (I know hahaha) but I am still so glad that we made it, it is beautiful and I love its openness and its airiness. And now when I'm sitting at my desk, working and I look up my new wall, it is inspired and happy.
And so am I.
